Lustlab Ad of the Week: 6/26

I was away all last week on a writing retreat. It was A-W-E-S-O-M-E. I will post about it soon. But first, here is last week’s Lustlab installment, late but not never.

LUST, the “Lustlab Ad of the Week” book collection, is out and on the shelves! You can order it here directly from the Fantagraphics web-catalog. “Lustlab Ad of the Week” is a comic adaptation of one of the week’s kinky personal ads in Seattle alt-weekly The Stranger, and I post them here every Wednesday(ish).

My Personal Public Art

Last Wednesday’s public meeting about Mike Ross’s and my art for the Capitol Hill Sound Transit Station went great. Standing room only, and a very thoughtful, positive discussion.

Here’s my proposal! Two proposals, actually: I’ll be doing two murals.

1. “Crossed Pinkies,” the mural for the (main) North Entry, is about 45′ long and 13′ high:

Here’s a video of what it will look like to walk into the station via the North Entry.

2. “Walking Fingers,” the mural for the West Entry, is 28′ wide by 20′ high:

Lustlab Ad of the Week: 6/12

“G showers” is golden showers – which is kind of poetic actually, no?

Sound Transit ‘N’ Me, Update

Be square! Or be there! I will unveil my proposal to the public for the first time! Mike’s piece has been super-controversial, so expect some excitement! Regina Hackett, the art critic for the Seattle P-I, blogged about the hoo-ha and had some nice things to say about me:

Ross will be in town June 11, 5:30-7:30 p.m. to try to sell himself to the wary: Capitol Hill Arts Center, 1621 12th Ave. Helping him go over will be Seattle graphic art star Ellen Forney, tapped to do murals in the station.

(I want the station to have her hands. Love the hands.)

On Capitol Hill, Forney’s a rock star.

(Regina: guess what? You will get your hands!)

“Ridiculous and Sublime” sounds okay to me!

Sequart Research and Literacy Organization ran a lovely review of Lust in Rob Clough’s “High-Low” column. (“High-Low”?) I love that Rob took note of this detail, which nobody else has commented on:

“The cover image itself is a hilarious triumph of design — we see a star covering up the woman’s breast, which is understandable, but it takes a second to figure out why the second star is so big until the reader notices the strap on the woman’s thigh.”

(Now if only someone would take note of the endpapers! Those were a lot of work, those endpapers.)

Thanks, Rob!

This is my abstract art interpretation of this couple’s “wildest fantasy” configuration.

So I’m Overextended, So Sue Me

Mom, Dad, yes I exist! I’m swamped: finishing up the annual report for the Seattle Public Library, working on public art for the light rail station in Capitol Hill, writing my book proposal, finishing end-of-the-semester stuff (grading papers: yuck), getting together various comics and commissions and presentations, and bracing for the Emerald City ComiCon this Sunday. I’ll call you when I find the phone, I promise!

In the meantime:

My interview with Canadian TV show SexTV aired a week ago, and they have an excerpt on their site (below I am doing the “bunny ears” quotation marks, not miming something pervy):
